  • Display house numbers prominently.
  • Good quality security doors provide a barrier.
  • Do not open your door to everyone. Install a door viewer.
  • Check trade or sale people’s identification. If in doubt keep them out.
  • Ensure that all doors and windows have good quality locks fitted that can be keyed alike.
  • Ensure smoke alarms are installed and maintained.
  • Keep cash in the home to a minimum.
  • Do not keep a weapon nearby for “protection’. It could be used against you.
  • Secure your home when outside gardening and put away tools and gardening implements.
  • Lock your garage, shed and letterbox.
  • Dogs can provide personal protection and be a deterrent to prowlers.
  • Do not leave keys hidden outside. Leave a spare set with trusted family or neighbours.
  • Do not deadlock yourself inside.
  • If confronted in your home BE CALM. Comply with the offender’s requests. Try to avoid a confrontation. Exit the home safely and call Police.
